Baylor outlasts Mountaineers

With so much hype surrounding the Baylor and West Virginia game this past weekend, it surely did live up to the battle we suspected. Baylor pulled out the victory over a high-powered West Virginia team that proved it could stay with the defending National Champions up until the last second.

Baylor's Austin Roland getting the start over Jamie Fields who sat this one out due to an injury that wasn't done healing. Roland stepped in nicely, throwing for 407 yards on 13 of 22 and putting up 4 touchdowns in a performance that made Baylor fans happy to see. Roland, behind Heisman favorite Jamie Fields on the depth chart, will take over for the Bears when the Junior Jamie Fields leaves. Roland, just a Sophomore had a great performance.

The Mountaineers were Baylor's last obstacle before cashing in on a 12-0 perfect regular season. Now with a few weeks until the Conference Championship, Fields can take even more time to rest and get back into shape again.

Baylor certainly took a risk on not playing Fields (even injured) during this game but it has paid off for them in ways they'll see a few weeks from now. They also found out they got a pretty darn good QB behind Fields.” - One Scout

For West Virginia, the loss sets them back from #12 to #23 and puts them at 8-4 on the year. For the Mountaineers the loss will cement a season that saw 8 wins, the lowest since 2015 when the team lost the Military Bowl to end the year. Mountaineer football had a down year this year but everyone predicts another great year of Mountaineer football next year. West Virginia has been good in the past several years. The team hasn't had a losing record in five-years and three of which had 9 or 10 wins in them.
