Dean Sorenson looked up at the scoreboard during Notre Dame's impressive victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers and thought about the past couple years. The hometown pride of State College, Pennsylvania where the hometown Nittany Lions were a shoe in to acquire his verbal and eventually his scholarship. Then things went the other way, and Sorenson instead declared his loyalty to South Bend and the Irish. The amount of talk that that generated in State College was enough to fill the AM radio stations for weeks – and it did.
But as the Irish put the finishing touches on Pittsburgh – a route that saw a 52-13 final – Sorenson thought of the future games ahead for the Irish.
With Middle Tennessee State, USC and Eastern Michigan left on the schedule for the Irish, if all goes to planned, the Irish will easily make the College Football Playoff, conference championship or not. What also helps Notre Dame is that all three games are at home where Notre Dame is 4-0 this year and have been fairly successful in years past playing in South Bend.
The Irish season has also been very successful in recruiting talent. With 12 commitments right now and two 5-star talents, and 8 4-star talents, Notre Dame is looking to be a very big problem for a lot of teams in the P2P. It'll be interesting to see if they can hold it together long enough to make a serious run in this year's College Football Playoff.
