Utah's Sears leaves game early

Anthony Sears limped off the field Saturday night as Utah's Athletic Director and coaching staff collectively held their breath. The Junior QB from Minneapolis had led the Utes to a #1 ranking, throwing for over 3200 yards and 35 touchdowns. Those stats were good enough to make Sears a Heisman favorite this year and on the radar of professional scouts already.

But none of that mattered on Saturday night.

As Sears left the field and rushed into the medical tent, Sophomore Norman Cardona came into the game and did just fine on way to a 45-6 victory over the Colorado Buffaloes. Cardona is a great QB. He proved that against Colorado last week by completing 85 % of his passes for 407 yards and 4 touchdowns.

“We are bummed to lose Sears, xrays have come back negative, he got a pretty bad sprain on his ankle, but he's a tough kid and we expect him to heal up over the next couple weeks for our conference championship game. we believe in "next man up" at Utah and to always be prepared, as we saw this week against Colorado. Norman Cardona is more than prepared to fill his shoes, there is no QB controversy, the team is Sears when he comes back, but gotta give Cardona a ton of props for remaining prepared to have his name called." - Utah AD

But Sears is the emotional leader of the Utes and as the Heisman hopeful left the game the sudden reality of life without Sears came to fruition.

Now that reality is set with it's own timetable. 2 weeks. Fortunately for Utah they have already secured their spot in the Pac-12 title game, but injuries take time and Utah is really hoping that Sears gets back to the field before the Conference game.
