We Need to Talk About UMASS

Somehow and someway the UMASS continues to keep this magical season moving right along as if it were on their schedules the entire time and its the general public that is in need of a catch up.

UMASS went to Iowa and defeated the Hawkeyes 28-17. It was a game that saw UMASS Wide Reciever Edward Drummond catch 5 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown. Drummond has been one of the reasons for this turnaround this year for the Minutemen as he has 1119 yards for 7 touchdowns in his first season on campus. Yes, he's a true freshman.

But as you look at the past decade of UMASS football you don't see too much movement until the past three years. Head Coach Ernest Hughes has been the biggest part of the turnaround. Recruiting Drummond himself to come on campus, Hughes took over in 2016 and went 3-9 with a UMASS team that was completely recruited by another coach.

Fast forward four seasons ahead, with the majority of his team being exclusively his and the Minutemen are 9-2 and defeating Iowa on the road. They're ranked #13, the highest in program history and conquering their rivals Boston College. They're also doing this completely, on AI control.

But UMASS looks now at a home date with Missouri. The Tigers well aware of UMASS' special way of winning games and knows it could be the next victim if they don't take the Minutemen seriously. UMASS has the respect of the college football nation, now it'll be interesting to see if they can hold on to it for one more victory. Regardless, this season has been one magical ride for the fans and team in Amherst.
